The Citizens advanced to the FA Cup final after defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Wembley Stadium in the semifinal on Sunday (April 27, 2025). The goals were scored by Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol. In the final, Manchester City will face Crystal Palace.

This marks the third consecutive season that City has reached the FA Cup final. In 2022, they lifted the trophy after defeating Manchester United 2-1 in the final. A year later, United avenged that loss by winning with the same scoreline.

This achievement serves as a consolation for Manchester City's underwhelming performance in the Premier League this season. Currently, City sits fourth in the standings with 61 points.

The battle for Champions League spots remains fierce, with City competing against Newcastle United, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa in the closing stages of the campaign.

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's manager, emphasized that the team is now fully focused on the league after securing a place in the FA Cup final.

"We are very happy to be there. However, this season has not been great because what defines our season is the Premier League," Guardiola said, as quoted on Manchester City's official website.

"Since I arrived here, we have always been up there, and now we are trying to avoid defeats and qualify for the Champions League. We have five days to prepare to face Wolves, a team that has been playing very well this season.

We have four 'finals' left in the league, and then we will be delighted to face Crystal Palace here in the FA Cup final," he added.

With the season still wide open, Manchester City must deliver consistent performances over their final four league matches to salvage their domestic campaign.
