Aston Villa managed to achieve an important 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League match which took place at Villa Park, Sunday (1/1/2025). In the dramatic match, both teams showed aggressive play from the first minute.

Villa opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Ollie Watkins' sharp kick after utilizing Lucas Digne's cross from the left side. Brighton, who did not remain silent, immediately tried to reply and managed to equalize in the 41st minute thanks to Pascal Groß's goal which finished Leandro Trossard's through ball.

However, the hosts took the lead again in the 63rd minute when John McGinn scored a beautiful goal from outside the penalty box which Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele failed to block. Although Brighton tried hard to equalize, they were unable to penetrate Villa's solid defense, and finally the match ended with a 2-1 victory for Unai Emery's team.

With this victory, Aston Villa further strengthened their position at the top of the standings, while Brighton had to swallow a slightly painful defeat, despite playing quite well throughout the match.
